Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector

I've recently been testing some US BB creams and I have to say I am disappointed.
I am not new to BB creams. I mean REAL BB creams, not this tinted moisturizer stuff the US is putting out. A true BB cream has: SPF 30+, acne medication/something to soothe skin, whitening/brightening treatment, pigmented and can be used as a foundation/concealer. Musings of a Muse has a great article about the differences. What's the difference between tinted moisturizer and bb creams?

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in1 Beauty Balm

Here's what Maybelline claims this BB cream does. My reaction to the claims are in bold.

BB creams combine skincare + makeup in 1 simple step
8-in-1 Skin Perfector:
• Blurs imperfections - No! This is not pigmented enough to blur anything.
• Brightens - Nope!
• Evens skin tone - No! Not pigmented enough.
• Smoothes - Nope!
• Hydrates - YES! This seems like it would be a great moisturizer for those with oily skin.
• Enhances - No!
• Protects with SPF 30 - Yes.
• 0% oils and heavy ingredients - This sure felt oily!!

I don't want to be a negative nelly, but just don't waste your money on this!! This is lighter than any tinted moisturizer I've tried and I saw absolutely zero difference on my skin when I used this. It also made my skin SUPER oily, I mean unnaturally oily. Oh and it made me break out.

The only person I would suggest this to is those with very dry skin so this is so moisturizing.

Have you tried this BB cream?

  1. That's one reason I have not tried ANY of the US-release brands of BB cream (and from reviews coming from lovely bloggers like yourself). They don't match up the real BB creams. Thanks for the review!

  2. Aw! I'm sorry it didn't work out for you! *hugs*

It actually worked really well for me, because I prefer light bases and I have super dry skin. I actually preferred this over the Garnier suprisingly. :)

  4. Blast! What a shame, especially considering that Maybelline makes bb creams for Asia. Thanks for letting us know not to bother with this one!
